Songhees Economic Development

Animikii is grateful to have our headquarters on Lək̓ʷəŋən land, also known as the Songhees Nation. We share coworking space with other incredible Indigenous businesses, non-profits and entrepreneurs at the Songhees Innovation Centre, in the heart of the community within the Songhees Wellness Centre. We are grateful for any opportunity to partner with Chief Ron Sam, the Songhees Nation Council and Christina Clarke, the head of Economic Development at Songhees Nation to serve the local community, and share the amazing accomplishments of the Songhees Nation. Christina Clarke partnered with Animikii to create the Songhees Development Corporation website and highlight the Nation’s strategic priorities for economic development.  As a team, our Thunderbirds are committed to supporting community partnerships and projects that uplift and celebrate Songhees Nation.

The purpose of the Songhees Development Corporation is to operate profitable business ventures, generate surplus income and create a supportive environment for entrepreneurs.  Using best practices for business governance, Songhees Development Corporation seeks alignment with Songhees Nation’s values and priorities. In a business context, these values are applied through the choosing of who they work with, how they work with one another and how they resolve challenges. Their economic objectives include generating a surplus to support community priorities while investing in the future, fostering a prosperous environment for entrepreneurs and community-based business ventures, and supporting Nation-owned and operated business ventures and partnerships. By being respectful, honest and courageous they resolve concerns directly, build trust, and establish long-term relationships.
